From 1946 and prior to the issue of the first pictorial set in 1952, Australian stamps of that period were used as postage in teh teritory. Therefore all stamps from 1946 to 1952 bearing Papua and new guinea post mark should striktly be included in a collection of stamps of the country.Such stamps are of some interest to the specialist but,not being of a popular nature, it is doubtful whether any but the extremely high values would have any value to the general collector

Investing In stamps

| Sunday, October 5, 2008
More and more collectors and also many non collectors are turning to stamps as a medium for investment. Although regarded by some cynics as mere bits of paper, the same comment might be applied to paper currency of share certificates in a speculative enterprise. In this era inflation, its becoming apparent that selected stamps will not only hold their own in value as money continues to devaluate but will,on occasions, actualy provide a handsome profit, in many cases in excess of the appreciation of many stocks and shares. Stamps are portable and usually easily negotiable. Unfortunately, they are not recognized in the world as satisfactory collateral security against a loan by the financial institutions as they are, for instance, in the United States and some other countries but even this may occur in the future. However,it is an interesting thought to speculate upon the large number of the bank managers,Doctor, Dentists, barristers, solicitors and other professional men who, possessing a keen financial sense, collect and invest in stamps.
